INNISFAIL – An Innisfail man is facing multiple Criminal Code and drug charges after a man in a stolen motorcycle blew past a police traffic stop at high speed, cutting off motorists and then crashing near the Innisfail Auction Market.

RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said in a media release that on April 13 Innisfail RCMP observed a motorcycle in Innisfail with no licence plate.

Slaney said RCMP members attempted a traffic stop on the motorcycle but the motorcyclist failed to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

She said the motorcyclist drove through numerous stop signs without stopping and cut off other motorists.

Slaney said the motorcyclist then lost control on gravel near the Innisfail Auction Market and crashed the bike.

She said the motorcyclist attempted to flee the area on foot but he was apprehended by RCMP.

 Slaney said a police investigation revealed the motorcycle was stolen and the VIN number had been tampered with.

She said the suspect was a suspended driver and when arrested and searched was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

 Slaney said Jesse Burgoyne, 35, a resident of Innisfail, has been charged with the following offences:

•    Possession of stolen property over $5,000;
•    flight from police;
•    dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
•    altered vehicle identification number;
•    driving a motor vehicle while suspended;
•    possession of fentanyl;
•    possession of methamphetamine;
•    operation of a motor vehicle without insurance, and
•    0peration of a motor vehicle without registration.

 Slaney said Burgoyne will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on April 16.
