Didsbury's newly-adopted level of service includes emergency response

Didsbury's level of service document enables council to identify service gaps as the community’s needs shift

DIDSBURY - The 2024 level of service document for the Town of Didsbury, which is used as a tool for prioritizing budget allocations during current budget cycles is in place.

“The service levels outlined in the draft document represent an initial overview of the public service offered by the Town of Didsbury, and are subject to periodic adjustments,” said chief administrative officer Ethan Gorner during a recent council meeting.

“The document outlines the town’s current levels of service, enabling council to identify service gaps as the community’s needs shift. Similarly, it is intended to serve as a framework in the asset management process, as the assets evaluated annually for replacement contribute towards maintaining these service levels.”

The service level document is categorized into groups: programs, sub-programs, services, sub-services, service types, levels of service, and processes.

Categories include community amenities, community development, environmental stewardship, land use and development, movement of goods and people, public safety, business and financial management, corporate governance and standards, 

Under the public safety program, the updated level of service document deals with fire, rescue and emergency, medical services.

It states, in part, that the Didsbury Fire Department will “provide information to the public using a variety of channels, such as social media, media, face-to-face, on request. The department will attend public events and schools on request.”

Regarding fire inspection and enforcement, the documents states that inspections are conducted upon request or complaint.

“Occupancies are inspected for compliance with the fire code requirements on risk assigned basis for the of occupancy and frequency of inspections.

“As required by the Didsbury quality management plan, all occupancies are inspected based on their assigned frequency of inspections using certified and qualified personnel. Inspections may also be carried out on request or complained on any property as permitted by the Safety Codes Act.”

Regarding alarm inspection, fire suppression, medical first response, confined space rescue, dangerous goods, high angle/elevated rescue, the document states there will be “paid on-call firefighters available 24/7/365 to provide the services.”

Council carried a motion adopting the updated level of service document as presented.
