MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved the 2024 Mountain View County citizenship award winners, recognizing the student recipients for their contributions to their respective communities.

The move came during the recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting.

The awards, which each come with $1,000, are given annually to one student from each of the high schools in the district.

The applicants are judged on attitude towards school and community, involvement in extra-curricular activities, enthusiasm and initiative, volunteer work in community, leadership quality, and academic standing.

Council received and reviewed biographies of the nominated students during an in camera session on April 24.

The 2024 citizenship award winners are Davis Gottenbos from Carstairs’ Hugh Sutherland School, Keegan Collins from Cremona School, Chase Aarsby from Didsbury High School, Cecelia Hildebrand from Olds Koinonia Christian School and Landon Erick from Ecole Olds High School.

The county only recently received the name of a nominee from Sundre High School and is expected to consider that application soon, council heard.
