Firefighters and police attend an incident at Cowboy & Co. in Olds in which a vehicle slammed into the business/residence at shortly after 5 p.m. Monday night.

OLDS — An incident in which a vehicle drove into an Olds commercial building with a residence in it Monday night remains under investigation, police and fire officials say.

Olds firefighters were called to the former Cowboy & Co. coffee shop location at 5111 48th St. at 5:11 p.m. Monday, April 29.

Olds RCMP Cpl. Leif Svendsen says a vehicle “lost control and inadvertently drove into the building.”

Svendsen says three people inside the north portion of the building were “affected” by the incident.

He said two people were assessed by EMS on-scene and released, while the third person was transported to Calgary via ambulance for further assessment.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured.

One person was trapped in the resulting debris.

“Crews worked to remove the vehicle quickly and accessed the patient, who was treated by EMS,” Olds Fire Department Chief Justin Andrew wrote in a prepared statement.

Svendsen says that’s the person who was transported to Calgary.

Andrew says the building suffered some structural damage and a suite will have to be repaired before tenants can live in it again.

Svendsen says drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the incident.

He says because the incident is still under investigation, it’s too early to say whether charges will be laid.

“Once all available information is in hand, the lead investigator will determine which direction the investigation will take,” he wrote.
